“I’m passionate about the issues facing Ohio today and I hope to bring experience to the table at a time when our state needs it the most,” Gonzales said.  “I have been encouraged by so many people throughout the district to enter this race and it would be my honor to serve as state representative for the 19th District.”

Gonzales, a Republican, is a lifelong resident of Central Ohio and is a graduate of Otterbein College.  Anne began her community service by serving on the Westerville Telecommunications Commission and the Westerville Re-Investment Housing Council.  She was elected as a member of the Westerville City Council in 2001 and is currently serving as Mayor of Westerville.  During her eight years on Council, she has served as Vice Mayor, on the Recreation Advisory Board, the Westerville Parks Foundation, Planning Commission, and Fire Advisory Board, and the COTA Westerville Advisory Council.

“It has always been a high priority to me to be responsive to our citizens and be helpful in any way that I can to enhance their quality of life,” Gonzales said.  “People are losing jobs throughout the district every day and it’s time we help get people back to work.”

House Republican Leader Bill Batchelder said he is honored to have Mayor Anne Gonzales join the 2010 race for the Ohio House.  “In these challenging times, our state needs a fresh perspective like Anne’s to bring optimism, dedication and responsiveness to the citizens of the 19th House District,” he said.  “Our caucus is very much looking forward to Mayor Gonzales joining the legislature and helping us get Ohio back on track.”

Former State Representative Larry Flowers, who had served as the member in this seat until 2008, will co-chair Gonzales’s campaign.  ”I have been privileged to work with Anne and witness her dedication and responsiveness to residents of Westerville,” Flowers said.  “I know Anne will bring that same level of dedication and service to the entire district and I look forward to assisting her in her campaign.”

A campaign kickoff event will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 at the American Legion Hall, 393 E. College Avenue in Westerville.  Anne resides in Westerville with her husband of eighteen years, John, and their three children.
